The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
