Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Police then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.

An important official stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
